In act III, scene I, it is showed that Banquo is treated as a very close friend by Lady Macbeth and Macbeth himself. It is showed in the line where Macbeth asks in whether Banquo could make it to the banquet, and both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth wishes that he would be able to come. However, Banquo replies very coldly and distanced from both of them because he suspects that Macbeth cheated in to becoming King, and believes if the prophesy of Macbeth is true, then so is his in which his son and grandson would be king. Macbeth fears Banquo because he believes that Banquo has suspected something about his assassination of Duncan because Macbeth believes that Banquo is a very clever man to figure such things. There is also because from what Macbeth was told by the witches, the sons of Banquo would be next as a king, not Macbeth’s sons.
